Make your own ketchup.
A friend of mine gave me this recipe. It’s not one of mine, but one that I may use in the future. I recommend using this recipe to make ketchup, and to use homemade ketchup in place of “ketchup” in recipes. You should be able to use it in place of barbecue sauce in other recipes, too, such as a loaf.
- 1/2 cup tomato puree
- 2 Tbsp oil (optional)
- 2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp oregano
- 1 1/3 cup tomato paste
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder/granulated garlic
- 1/4 cup honey (if you are opposed to the use of honey, or can’t afford honey, you could try other sweeteners)
To Make: Stir all ingredients together and chill. If it’s too thick, thin with a little bit of water.
